ABOUT
Sammy Johns (February 7, 1946 - January 4, 2013) was a folk/soft rock singer-songwriter who became famous during the mid 1970s. He is best known for the era-defining Top 5 smash, "Chevy Van" (1975), a feel-good soft rocker that captures the free love spirit of the 1970s.
Sammy Johns later became better known as a songwriter, and many covered versions of his songs became hugely successful. His numerous works for other bands and artists include such Country hits as Waylon Jennings' "America," John Conlee's "Common Man," and Conway Twitty's "Desperado Love," the latter two topping the charts.
