ABOUT
Boyce & Hart were a prolific songwriting duo consisting of Tommy Boyce (September 29, 1939 - November 23, 1994) and Bobby Hart (b. Robert Luke Harshman, February 18, 1939) that became famous during the 1960s. As performing artists, they are best known for the upbeat and catchy "I Wonder What She's Doing Tonite" (1967) in which two spoken asides made by Boyce to Hart can be heard ("Aww, come on now" and "Alright, Bobby, let's give it to them!").
Boyce & Hart had their first major success as a songwriting duo with Chubby Checker's "Lazy Elsie Molly" (1964) and went on to pen such hits as Jay & The Americans "Come A Little Bit Closer" (1964) and The Monkees' "Last Train To Clarksville" (1966), "Words" (1967), "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone" (1967), and "Valleri" (1968). In addition to writing and producing much of the music for "The Monkees" TV show, the duo's numerous other song writing credits include the theme to the daytime soap opera, "Days Of Our Lives." Boyce and Hart also collaborated separately with other songwriters on such oldies classics as Fats Dominos' "Be My Guest" (Fats Domino, John Marascalco, Tommy Boyce), Curtis Lee's "Pretty Little Angel Eyes" (Curtis Lee, Tommy Boyce), Little Anthony & The Imperials "Hurt So Bad" (Teddy Randazzo, Bobby Weinstein, Bobby Hart), and The Ikettes' "Peaches 'N' Cream" (Steve Venet, Tommy Boyce).
Tommy Boyce debuted on the Pop/Rock charts as a solo artist in 1962 with "Along Came Linda" (1962), which was followed by "I'll Remember Carol" (1962) and several other minor hits. Boyce & Hart had their first charting song in 1967 with "Out & About," which made the Top 40. Their fame took off later that year with "I Wonder What She's Doing Tonite" (1967), which became a Top 10 hit and went gold. The duo's several other hits through 1969 include "Goodbye Baby (I Don't Want To See You Cry)" (1968), "Alice Long (You're Still My Favorite Girlfriend)" (1968), "We're All Going To The Same Place" (1969), and "L.U.V." (1969). Bobby Hart had one final charting song in 1980 as a solo artist with "Lovers For The Night."
At the height of their fame in the late 1960s, Boyce & Hart made several TV appearances and performed one of their songs, "I'll Blow You A Kiss In The Wind," in an episode of "Bewitched." In the mid 1970s, Boyce and Hart teamed up with Mickey Dolenz and Davy Jones of The Monkees to tour and record. Sadly, Boyce committed suicide in 1994 after a lengthy struggle with depression and declining health following a brain aneurysm.
