Clarence Carter - Songs

ABOUT

Clarence Carter (b. 1936) is a highly acclaimed and veteran R&B/soul singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer with an expressive baritone and a great deal of crossover appeal who became famous during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Best known for the heartfelt country soul classic, "Patches" (1970), his long string of hits also includes "Too Weak To Fight" (1968) and the more lascivious "Slip Away" (1968) and "Back Door Santa" (1968). Carter debuted on the R&B charts in 1967 with the self-penned "Tell Daddy," which inspired the Etta James smash answer song, "Tell Mama" (1967), which he also co-wrote.
