ABOUT
Classics IV (a.k.a. Classics IV Featuring Dennis Yost) were a soft rock group that became famous during the late 1960s. They are best known for the jazz-influenced "Spooky" (1967), the soulful "Stormy" (1968), and the romantic "Traces" (1969), which all became Top 5 hits and million-sellers.
Formed in 1965 in Jacksonville, Florida by lead singer Dennis Yost (July 20, 1943 - December 7, 2008) and first known as The Classics, the hitmaking lineup also included J.R. Cobb (guitar), Walter Eaton (bass), Kim Venable (drums), and Joe Wilson (keyboards), who left the group in 1968 and was replaced by Dean Daughtry (September 8, 1946 - January 26, 2023). With producer Buddy Buie, group members Cobb and Daughtry co-founded what would later become the Atlanta Rhythm Section, and after a number of personnel changes, Classics IV had their final hit in 1975 with "My First Day Without Her" before disbanding. They were inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 1993.
