ABOUT

Betty Everett (November 23, 1939 - August 19, 2001) was a highly acclaimed and veteran soul singer and pianist with a great deal of crossover appeal who became famous during the 1960s. Her best known songs include the million-seller, "The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss)" (1964), and "Let It Be Me" (1964), performed as a duet with Jerry Butler. Other songs for which she is well known include "There'll Come A Time" (1969) and the original hit version of "You're No Good" (1963), which later topped the charts for Linda Ronstadt.

Born in Greenwood, Mississippi, Betty Everett began at age nine singing gospel and playing the piano in church. In 1957, she moved to Chicago where she launched her music career and by 1963, had signed with Vee-Jay Records. After her commercial peak in the 1960s, she continued to perform and record actively over the years and in 2000, made her final public appearance with Jerry Butler on the PBS TV special, "Doo Wop 51." She was inducted into the Rhythm & Blues Foundation's Hall of Fame in 1996.
