ABOUT
Bobby Hebb (July 26, 1938 - August 3, 2010) was a highly acclaimed and veteran R&B/soul singer, songwriter, pianist, and guitarist with a flair for country music and jazz who became famous during the mid 1960s. Best known for heartfelt and optimistic "Sunny" (1966), a Top 5 smash on both the R&B and Pop/Rock charts, other hits include "Love Me" (1966) and his soulful Top 40 rendition of the Joe "Red" Hayes/Jack Rhodes-penned country classic, "A Satisfied Mind" (1966), which topped the Country charts for Porter Wagoner in 1955.
Born Robert Alvin Von Hebb in Nashville, Tennessee, he grew up in a musical family and, beginning at age 3, performed alongside his musician parents, who were both blind, and his older brother Harold. He launched his music career in the early 1950s as a part of Roy Acuff's Smoky Mountain Boys and played on the Grand Ole Opry. Hebb's fame soared in the mid 1960s with the release of "Sunny," an oldies classic and soul jazz standard later covered by hundreds of artists. He began writing this song in late 1963 following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 23, 1963 and the fatal stabbing of his brother outside a Nashville nightclub, which occurred one day after. He performed with The Beatles in 1966 during their final tour that year and wrote/co-wrote many other songs over the years that include Lou Rawls' "A Natural Man." Hebb later recorded a disco remake of "Sunny" (titled "Sunny '76"), which became an R&B chart hit in 1976.

Bobby Hebb
- Sunny 1966
(Having just suffered the loss of his older brother Harold who was stabbed to death outside a nightclub in Nashville, Bobby Hebb, who wrote "Sunny" right after both the murder of his brother and the assassination of John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963, was inspired by his desire to pay tribute to his brother and to also try to maintain a sunny disposition in the face of tragic events. He later recorded "Sunny '76" which later became a minor R&B hit in 1976. Over the years, this immensely popular song has been covered by many other bands and artists.)
