ABOUT
The Chordettes were a highly acclaimed female traditional pop/doo-wop vocal quartet with luminous harmonies that became famous during the early 1960s. Best known for the serene "Mr. Sandman" (1954), which topped the charts, other hits include "Born To Be With You" (1956), "Lollipop" (1958), and a pop remake of the Manos Hatzidakis-penned "Never On Sunday" (1961).
Formed in 1946 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, the classic hitmaking lineup consisted of Carol Buschmann, Marjorie Needham, Janet Ertel (September 21, 1913 - November 22, 1988), and lead singer Lynn Evans (d. February 6, 2020, age 95), with a number of personnel changes over the years up through their split in 1963. The Chordettes were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001.
