ABOUT
The Dartells were a short-lived rock band from Oxnard, California that became famous during the early 1960s. Formed in 1962 while all members were still in their teens, the lineup consisted of lead singer Doug Phillips (bass) with Dick Burns (guitar), Gary Peeler (drums), Rich Piel (saxophone), Randy Ray (organ), and Corky Wilkie (saxophone). They are best known for the Top 20 dance smash, "Hot Pastrami" (1963), which was inspired by Nat Kendrick & The Swans' "(Do The) Mashed Potatoes."
