ABOUT
The Doobie Brothers are a highly acclaimed and veteran rock band with tight harmonies and a unique style incorporating elements of folk, country, and R&B that became famous beginning in the early 1970s. Their best known songs include such classic rock staples as the laid-back "Listen To The Music" (1972), the funky "Long Train Runnin'" (1973), the evocative bluegrass-influenced Southern rocker, "Black Water" (1974), and the soulful soft rocker, "What A Fool Believes" (1979).
Formed in 1970 in San Jose, California, the early 1970s hitmaking lineup included John Hartman (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Michael Hossack (drums, percussion), Tiran Porter (bass, backing and occasional lead vocals), Patrick Simmons (guitar, backing vocals), and lead singer Tom Johnston (guitar, harmonica, piano, backing vocals). Since its founding, the band has had numerous personnel changes over the years that include the addition of Michael McDonald (keyboards, piano, synthesizers, mandolin, lead and backing vocals) in 1975. They have continued to record and perform actively to the present day, with a lineup that includes original and early members Johnston, McDonald, and Simmons. The Doobie Brothers numerous honors and accolades include being inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.
