Dorsey Burnette (December 28, 1932 - August 19, 1979) was a rockabilly/country/early rock & roll singer and songwriter who became famous during the early 1960s. He is best known for the self-penned "(There Was A) Tall Oak Tree" (1960), an upbeat ballad about what might have been if Eve had left the apple alone in the Garden of Eden. Burnette and his younger brother Johnny also had an instrumental hit in 1961 as The Texans with "The Green Grass Of Texas."
