ABOUT
The Dovells were a doo-wop group with a lively and exuberant sound that became famous during the early 1960s. They are best known for the rousing oldies dance classic, "Bristol Stomp" (1961), a Top 5 smash that soon after became a million-seller. Other big hits include the upbeat "Hully Gully Baby" (1962) and "You Can't Sit Down" (1963).
Formed in 1957 at Overbrook High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and first known as The Brooktones, the original lineup consisted of Len Borisoff ("Len Barry"), Mike Freda, Jerry Gross ("Jerry Summers"), Jim Mealey ("Danny Brooks"), and Arnie Silver. Brooks left in 1962, and Len Barry left the following year to pursue a solo career, later scoring a Top 5 hit with "1-2-3" in 1965. The remaining group members continued as a trio and later recorded as The Magistrates (of "Here Come The Judge" fame).
