Joe Dowell (January 23, 1940 - February 4, 2016) was a pop singer from Bloomington, Indiana with a smooth, expressive baritone who became famous during the early 1960s. He is best known for "Wooden Heart" (1961), a remake of an old German folk song sung in both English and German that topped both the Adult Contemporary and Pop/Rock charts and went on to become a million-seller. Other hits include "The Bridge Of Love" (1961) and the catchy and upbeat "Little Red Rented Rowboat" (1962).
