ABOUT
The Easybeats were an influential Australian rock band with a raw, energetic sound that became famous during the late 1960s. They are best known worldwide for the hard-driving and catchy "Friday On My Mind" (1967) which captures the excitement and anticipation of the upcoming weekend. This proto-punk classic topped the charts in Australia and the Netherlands and became a top hit in many other countries that included the U.S. where it made the Top 20.
Formed in Sydney, Australia in 1964, the original lineup consisted of Dick Diamonde (bass), Gordon "Snowy" Fleet (drums), Harry Vanda (guitar), George Young (guitar), and lead singer Stevie Wright. The Easybeats rose to national prominence in 1965 with "She's So Fine," which peaked at #3 on the Australian charts. After disbanding in 1969, Wright launched a solo career, and Vonda and Young went on to form Flash & The Pan. The Easybeats reunited in 1986 for an Australian tour.
