ABOUT

Ferlin Husky (December 3, 1925 - March 17, 2011) was a highly acclaimed and veteran country singer with a smooth baritone who became famous beginning in the early 1950s, A versatile performer, he covered honky-tonk, rockabilly, ballads, and spoken recitations, as well as such disparate genres as pop and comedy. He is best known for the lovelorn "Gone" (1957) and the gospel-infused "Wings Of A Dove" (1960), which both topped the Country charts, made the Pop/Rock Top 20, and became his biggest crossover successes.

Born Ferlin Eugene Husky in Gumbo, Missouri, he played the guitar as a child and as a young adult, performed in honky tonks at night while working as a truck driver and steel mill worker. During World War II, he served in the United States Merchant Marine, entertaining troops on transport ships. Beginning in the late 1940s, he recorded as Terry Preston before signing with Capitol Records and achieving stardom under his real name. Husky debuted on the Country charts in 1953 with the chart-topping "A Dear John Letter," a duet with Jean Shepard that became the first in a very long string of hits through 1975 that, along with "Gone" (1957) and "Wings Of A Dove" (1960), also includes "A Fallen Star" (1957), "Once" (1967), "The Waltz You Saved For Me" (1962), and "Just For You" (1967). He also created the comedic alter ego, Simon Crum, and had his biggest hit under that name in 1958 with "Country Music Is Here To Stay."

Ferlin Husky's numerous honors and accolades over his seven-decade career include being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010.
