ABOUT
The Four Preps are a veteran pop/folk vocal quartet with a number of personnel changes over the years that became famous during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Best known for the evocative romantic oldies classic, "26 Miles (Santa Catalina" (1958), which became a million-seller, other top hits include "Big Man" (1958), "Down By The Station" (1959), "Got A Girl" (1960), and the smash novelty medley, "More Money For You And Me" (1961).
Form in 1956 in Los Angeles while all the members were students at Hollywood High School, the original lineup consisted of Ed Cobb, bass (February 28, 1938 - September 19, 1999), Marv Ingram, high tenor (July 29, 1938 - March 7, 1999), Glen A. Larson, baritone (January 3, 1937 - November 14, 2014), and lead singer Bruce Belland (b. 1936). They were discovered by an executive from Capitol Records while performing at a talent show and were soon after signed to the record label. By 1969, the original foursome had disbanded, and Belland and Cobb reformed The Four Preps years later during the 1980s with two new members. The current Four Preps lineup is a quartet in which Belland is the only remaining original member.
Larson later went on to become a top TV writer and producer for such hit series as "Battlestar Galactica," "Knight Rider," and "Magnum PI." An acclaimed songwriter, Cobb's many credits include The Standells' "Dirty Water" and "Tainted Love" as made famous by Gloria Jones and Soft Cell.
