ABOUT

Gary Glitter (b. 1944) is an English former glam rock singer and songwriter known for his energetic live performances who became famous during the early 1970s. He is best known internationally for the rousing instrumental Top 10 smash, "Rock And Roll Part 2" (1972), a longtime fixture at sporting events (aka "The Hey Song"). Other hits include "I Didn't Know I Loved You (Till I Saw You Rock And Roll)" (1972).

Born Paul Francis Gadd in Oxfordshire, he made his first recordings in 1960 at age 15 under the name, Paul Raven, and soon after became a regular at London nightclubs. By the early 1970s, he had become known as Gary Glitter, a name reflecting his glam rock persona and flamboyant on-stage costumes. At the height of his commercial fame in the 1970s and 1980s, he scored 26 hits on the U.K. charts and, to date, has sold over 20 million records worldwide.
