ABOUT
Tom Glazer (September 2, 1914 - February 21, 2003) was a veteran folk singer and songwriter who became famous as a recording artist during the early 1960s. He is best known for the children's novelty smash, "On Top Of Spaghetti" (1963, with the Do-Re-Mi Children's Chorus), sung to the tune of "On Top of Old Smoky."
Born Thomas Zachariah Glazer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he learned to play the tuba, guitar, and bass in school and as a young adult, began as an amateur singer and songwriter in Washington, D.C. while working at the Library of Congress. In 1943, he made his professional debut at The Town Hall in New York City and in 1945 had his own radio show, Tom Glazer's Ballad Box. He became a part of the folk music scene in New York during the 1940s, and with Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and others, helped to lay the groundwork for the folk revival of the 1960s.
Glazer's songs, many which address various societal issues, have been recorded by such top acts as Perry Como, Bob Dylan, Burl Ives, The Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul & Mary, Pete Seeger, Frank Sinatra, The Weavers. He wrote the lyrics to "Skokian" and "Melody Of Love" which became hits for The Four Lads in 1954 and The Four Aces in 1955, respectively. He also composed the soundtrack to "A Face In The Crowd" (1957).
