The Gentrys - Songs

ABOUT

The Gentrys were a rock band that became famous during the mid 1960s. Best known for the exuberant "Keep On Dancing" (1965), which made the Pop/Rock Top 5 and became a million-seller, other songs include their hit covers of "Every Day I Have To Cry" (1966), "Cinnamon Girl" (1970), and "Wild World" (1971), the latter three written by Arthur Alexander, Neil Young, and Cat Stevens, respectively.

Formed in 1963 in Memphis, Tennessee, the original lineup consisted of Bruce Bowles (vocals), Bobby Fisher (saxophone, keyboards), Jimmy Hart (vocals), Jimmy Johnson (trumpet), Pat Neal (bass guitar), Larry Wall (drums), and lead singer Larry Raspberry (guitar), with some personnel changes. After amassing a strong local following, The Gentrys landed their first record deal with Youngstown Records before eventually moving to MGM. At the height of their commercial fame, they toured with The Beach Boys, Sonny & Cher, and other top acts and performed on such TV shows as "Hullabaloo," "Shindig!," and "Where The Action Is."
