Hollywood Argyles - Songs

ABOUT

The Hollywood Argyles were a short-lived studio group that became famous during the early 1960s. They are best known for their smash doo-wop/novelty cover of the Dallas Frazier-penned "Alley Oop" (1960), a playful song inspired by the comic strip of the same name which topped the Pop/Rock charts, made the R&B Top 5, and became a million seller. Also that year, Dante & The Evergreens and The Dyna-Sores released their own hit covers of "Alley Oop."

The Hollywood Argyles were formed in 1960 by Kim Fowley (July 21, 1939 - January 15, 2015) and Gary S. Paxton (May 18, 1939 - July 17, 2016), who served as lead singer. At the time, he was under contract to Brent Records where he recorded as Flip of Skip & Flip (of "Cherry Pie" fame). The group was essentially a collection of studio musicians and friends put together at the last minute, with Paxton as the main performer.
