ABOUT
Jerome Louis "J.J." Jackson (b. 1942) is an R&B/soul singer, songwriter, and arranger with powerful belting vocals who became famous during the mid and late 1960s. Best known for the self-penned (with Pierre Tubbs) "But It's Alright" (1966), a Top 5 R&B dance smash which made the Pop/Rock Top 40, other hits include "I Dig Girls" (1966) and "Four Walls (Three Windows And Two Doors)" (1967).
Born in the Bronx, New York, he first made his mark as a songwriter for such artists as The Shangri-Las and Jimmy Witherspoon. After reaching his commercial peak in the late 1960s with the catchy "But It's Alright," which become a rare double-chart success, first charting in 1966 and again in 1969, he relocated permanently to England soon after. J.J. Jackson has remained a celebrated figure in the U.K. Northern soul community over the years and he continues to perform actively.
