ABOUT
Jay & The Techniques were a pop/soul group that became famous during the late 1960s. They had a number of hits with delectable-sounding song titles that include the playful "Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie" (1967), which made the Top 10 on both the R&B and Pop/Rock charts and became a million-seller, and the catchy "Strawberry Shortcake" (1968). Other big hits include the upbeat "Keep The Ball Rollin'" (1967), which became the group's second million-seller.
Formed in Allentown, Pennsylvania by lead singer Jay Proctor, the original lineup also consisted of Chuck Crowl (bass guitar), Dante Dancho (lead guitar), Ronnie Goosley (saxophone), Karl Landis (Lippowitsch) (drums), George "Lucky" Lloyd (backing vocals), and Jon Walsh (trumpet), with some personnel changes. After their peak in commercial fame, Jay & The Techniques resurfaced one last time in 1978 on the R&B charts with "Number Onederful" and disbanded soon after. "Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie" and their final Pop/Rock hit, "Baby Make Your Own Sweet Music" (1968), both became dance favorites among fans of the British Northern soul music scene beginning in the early 1970s.
