Millie Jackson - Songs

ABOUT

Millie Jackson (b. 1944) is a highly acclaimed and veteran R&B/soul singer and songwriter with a great deal of crossover appeal who became famous during the 1970s and 1980s. She is best known for "Hurts So Good" (1973, not to be confused with the same-named smash by John Cougar Mellencamp), an R&B Top 5smash that also made the Pop/Rock Top 40. This song was featured in the soundtrack to "Cleopatra Jones" (1973) starring Tamara Dobson.

Born Mildred Virginia Jackson in Thomson, Georgia, she began her music career in 1964 at age 16 after winning a talent contest at Smalls Paradise, a Harlem nightclub. She debuted on the R&B charts in 1971 with the proto-rap "A Child Of God (It's Hard To Believe)," and her long string of hits through 1988 also includes "Ask Me What You Want" (1972), "My Man, A Sweet Man" (1972), "If You're Not Back In Love By Monday" (1977), and "Love Is A Dangerous Game" (1987), as well as her Grammy-nominated rendition of Luther Ingram's "(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don't Want To Be Right" (1975). Over her long career, she has released many albums, three of which went gold. She also formed and produced for the group, Facts of Life (of "Sometimes" fame).

Millie Jackson was inducted into the Official Rhythm & Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2015.
