ABOUT
Murray Head (b. 1946) is a veteran English actor and singer who became famous as a recording artist beginning in the early 1970s. He is best known for "Superstar," the title song from the album and rock opera, "Jesus Christ Superstar," which first charted in 1970 and made the Pop/Rock Top 20 upon its remake the following year. He had a resurgence years later in 1985 with "One Night In Bangkok," which made the U.S. Top 5 and topped the charts in various countries.
Born Murray Seafield St George Head in London, England into a theatrical family, his mother an actress and his father a documentary filmmaker, he began writing songs as a child. He launched his career in music and acting in the mid 1960s, soon after gaining fame for his role as Judas Iscariot in "Jesus Christ Superstar." Head achieved international acclaim in the mid 1980s with "One Night In Bangkok," a song from the concept album and subsequent musical, "Chess," by Tim Rice and ABBA members Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus. He found enduring popularity in France where his self-penned "Say It Ain't So, Joe" (1975) became a classic. Throughout his career, Head has also acted in a number of movies that included a starring role in the BAFTA award-winning and Oscar-nominated "Sunday Bloody Sunday" (1971). Over the years, he has continued to record music, perform in concerts, and make TV appearances.
