ABOUT
Robert Goulet (November 26, 1933 - October 30, 2007) was a highly acclaimed and veteran American/Canadian traditional pop singer and actor who became famous as a performing artist during the 1960s. Best known for the Top 20 smash, "My Love, Forgive Me (Amore, Scusami)" (1964), an English adaptation of the Italian pop standard, "Amore Scusami," other hits include "What Kind Of Fool Am I?" (1962) and "Summer Sounds" (1965).
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts to French-Canadian parents, he moved to Girouxville, Alberta, Canada with his family at age 13 and after several years, they relocated to the provincial capital of Edmonton. He began studying voice in his teens and won a scholarship to The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto where he performed in opera productions with other Conservatory students. During the 1950s, he appeared on a number of Canadian TV shows and by the end of the decade, had begun performing in a series of high-profile summer stock productions. His breakthrough came in 1960 when he was cast as Sir Lancelot in the Broadway musical, "Camelot," in which he co-starred with Richard Burton and Julie Andrews, which marked the beginning of his highly successful, decades-long stage, screen, and recording career. Highlights included Goulet's stirring rendition of "If Ever I Would Leave You," which became his signature song.
In addition to his numerous stage musical roles that continued through the mid 2000s, the handsome and multi-talented entertainer with the trademark mustache also made many TV and movie appearances over the years in a variety of dramatic and comedic roles, occasionally playing himself. His many recordings include 29 studio albums, two live albums, and 28 singles, and he is a Grammy (1963) and Tony (1968) award winner.
