ABOUT
Ron Holden (August 7, 1939 - January 22, 1997) was an R&B/pop singer and songwriter with smooth, soulful vocals who became famous during the early 1960s. He is best known for the self-penned "Love You So" (1960, with The Thunderbirds), an uptempo romantic ballad which begins with an extended instrumental section and features a honking sax and a danceable, syncopated clave rhythm throughout, giving this song a cha-cha-like feel.
Born Rolan Webster Holden in Seattle, Washington, he formed his first band, The Playboys, while still in high school. After signing with Donna Records, his fame took off in 1960 with "Love You So," his biggest crossover success which became a Top 10 Pop/Rock hit and made the R&B Top 20. At the height of his commercial fame, he appeared on such TV programs as "American Bandstand," "The Lloyd Thaxton Show," and "The Mike Douglas Show," performed at the Apollo Theater, and made USO tour-stops with Elvis Presley, Pat Boone, and Connie Francis. Other top acts with whom he performed over the years include James Brown, Bill Haley, and Etta James.
Ron Holden had a resurgence years later on the R&B charts with "Can You Talk?" (1974).
