ABOUT
Ruby Andrews (b. March 12, 1947) is a Chicago soul singer with powerful and emotive vocals who became famous during the late 1960s. Her best known songs include "Casonova (Your Playing Days Are Over)" (1967), "You Made A Believer (Out Of Me)" (1969), and "Everybody Saw You" (1970).
Born Ruby Stackhouse in Hollandale, Mississippi and raised in Chicago, she attended Hyde Park Academy High School and during her senior year, began singing with a group known as The Vondells. She soon after signed with the Kelmac label and in the mid 1960s, released several singles under her given name before moving to Zodiac Records in 1967. By then, she had become known professionally as Ruby Andrews.
Ruby Andrews debuted in 1967 with the haunting "Casonova (Your Playing Days Are Over)," which became a Top 10 R&B hit and her greatest Pop/Rock crossover success. Co-written and produced by Joshie Jo Armstead, this smash was followed by several other hits on both charts that include "Hey Boy Take A Chance On Love" (1968), "The Love I Need" (1968), "You Made A Believer (Out Of Me)" (1969), "Everybody Saw You/Can You Get Away" (1970), and "You Ole Boo Boo You" (1971). Many of Andrews' hits were co-written and produced by Fred Bridges, Robert Eaton, and Richard Knight who also performed as the vocal trio, Brothers Of Soul (of "I Guess That Don't Make Me A Loser" fame).
Ruby Andrews continued to tour and record over the years and worked with producer Swamp Dogg on "Kiss This" (1991) and other albums. She is the CEO of Genuine Ruby Records LLC.
