Shirley Ellis (January 19, 1929 - October 5, 2005) was an R&B/soul singer-songwriter with a flair for pop novelty songs who became famous during the mid 1960s. Best known for the upbeat and playful Top 5 smash, "The Name Game" (1964), other hits include "The Nitty Gritty" (1963) and "The Clapping Song (Clap Pat Clap Slap)" (1965).
