Vanity Fare - Songs

ABOUT

Vanity Fare is a veteran pop rock group from Kent, England that became famous during the early 1970s. Formed in 1968, the original members consisted of school friends Dick Allix (drums), Tony Goulden (guitar), Tony Jarrett (bass), and lead singer Trevor Brice, and Barry Landemen (keyboards) came on board soon after. First known as The Avengers, the group renamed itself Vanity Fare after the same-named William Makepeace Thackeray novel (with a slight change in spelling) and signed with Page One Records. Vanity Fare had its first charting song in 1968 in the U.K. with a cover of The Sunrays' "I Live For The Sun," which became a Top 20 hit.

Vanity Fare made its U.S. debut in late 1969 on the Pop/Rock charts with the genteel "Early In The Morning," which became a top hit in many countries worldwide, reaching #12 on the Billboard Hot 100, and soon after went gold. This smash was followed in early 1970 by Vanity Fare's biggest hit, "Hitchin' A Ride," which made the Top 5 and became the group's second gold record. Vanity Fare had one other charting song in the U.S. with "(I Remember) Summer Morning" (1970).

Since the band's commercial peak in the early 1970s, Vanity Fare has continued to perform actively to the present day, with a number of personnel changes over the years. The current lineup consists of Bernie Hagley (bass, flute, vocals), Steve Oakman (keyboards, vocals), Howard Tibble (drums), and Eddie Wheeler (lead guitar, vocals).
