ABOUT
Albert Hammond (b. 1944) is a highly acclaimed and veteran British-born Gibraltarian singer, songwriter, and producer who became famous as a performing artist during the early 1970s. Best known for the melancholy soft rocker, "It Never Rains In Southern California" (1972), other hits include "I'm A Train" (1974) and "99 Miles From L.A." (1975), the latter of which topped the Adult Contemporary chart.
Born in London and raised in Gibraltar, Hammond formed his first band while still in his teens and In 1966, co-founded the Family Dogg, an English group that had a Top 10 hit in the U.K. in 1969 with "A Way Of Life." A prolific songwriter, Hammond's collaborators over the years have included such luminaries as Mike Hazlewood, Hal David, Diane Warren, Carole Bayer Sager, and Roy Orbison. His numerous songwriting credits for other artists include The Hollies' "The Air That I Breathe," Leo Sayer's "When I Need You," Starship's "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," Whitney Houston's "One Moment In Time," and "To All The Girls I've Loved Before," performed as a duet by Julio Iglesias and Willie Nelson. Albert Hammond's numerous honors and accolades include receiving the Order of the British Empire (OBE) (2000) and being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (2008).
