ABOUT
Duane Eddy (April 26, 1938 - April 30, 2024) was a highly acclaimed and pioneering rock & roll guitarist, songwriter, and producer who became famous during the late 1950s and early 1960s as one of the top instrumentalists of that era. His best known songs, many of which he co-wrote with famed producer/songwriter Lee Hazlewood, include the raw and energetic "Rebel-'Rouser" (1958), the lively and infectious "Cannonball" (1958), the finger-snapping "Forty Miles Of Bad Road" (1959), the expressive "Because They're Young" (1960), and the catchy "(Dance With The) Guitar Man" (1962, with vocals provided by Darlene Love & The Blossoms).
Born in Corning, New York, Duane Eddy began playing the guitar at age 5 and moved to Arizona with his family in his early teens. He began in the late 1950s performing in local bands in Phoenix and by 1958, had signed with Jamie Records. He created his signature deep, reverberant "twangy" guitar sound through a combination of techniques and equipment that included the use of a Gretsch 6120 guitar, a large water storage tank used as an echo chamber, and a unique playing style incorporating bends and slides. His numerous honors and accolades include being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in 2008.
