ABOUT
Bent Fabricius-Bjerre (December 7, 1924 - July 28, 2020), known professionally as Bent Fabric, was a highly acclaimed and veteran Danish jazz/pop pianist and composer who became famous during the early 1960s. He is best known for the dainty and old-timey "Alley Cat" (1962), which topped the charts in Australia and became a big hit in many other countries worldwide including the U.S., where it made the Top 10. Originally released in Denmark as "Omkring et flygel" ("Around A Grand Piano"), this Grammy-winning smash became a million-seller and went gold.
Born in Frederiksberg, Denmark, Bent Fabric studied piano at the Royal Danish Music Academy, formed a jazz ensemble after World War II, and founded Metronome Records in 1950. Over the years, he composed dozens of scores for movies and TV and recorded many albums. In 2003, he made a return to the charts in his native Denmark with two more hits. One of them, "Jukebox," was remixed in 2006 and became a Top 10 hit on the U.S. Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.
