ABOUT
The Edsels are a veteran doo-wop group that became famous during the early 1960s. They are best known for the playful and exuberant "Rama Lama Ding Dong" (1961). This oldies classic was originally recorded in 1957 and released the following year under the erroneous title, "Lama Rama Ding Dong."
Formed in 1957 in Campbell, Ohio, the original lineup consisted of Harry Greene (baritone), Larry J. Greene (first tenor), James Reynolds (second tenor), bass singer Marshall Sewell (d. June 5, 2013, age 75), and lead singer George "Wydell" Jones Jr. (October 5, 1936 - September 27, 2008), with a number of personnel changes over the years. Originally known as The Essos (after the oil company), the group later took its name from the ill-fated Ford automobile. The Edsels have continued to perform to the present day, with Reynolds as the only remaining original member.
