ABOUT
Edward Bear was a Canadian pop group with a bluesy sound that became famous during the early 1970s. Best known for the poignant "Last Song" (1972), which topped the Canadian and U.S. Adult Contemporary charts and made the U.S. Pop/Rock Top 5, other hits include the breezy, Latin-influenced "You, Me And Mexico" (1970) and the melodic soft rocker, "Close Your Eyes" (1973).
Formed in 1966 in Toronto, Ontario by Larry Evoy (vocals, drums), who served as main songwriter, other key members included Roger Ellis (guitar) and Paul Weldon (keyboards, vocals), with a number of personnel changes and additions. First known as The Edward Bear Revue, the band's name, which was later shorted to Edward Bear, was taken from the same-named character in the children's book series, "Winnie The Pooh." Edward Bear won a Juno Award in 1973 for outstanding group performance before finally disbanding the following year.
