The Esquires - Songs

ABOUT

The Esquires were an R&B/soul vocal quintet with a great deal of crossover appeal that became famous during the late 1960s. Best known for the rousing and funky "Get On Up" (1967), a Top 5 R&B smash which also made the Pop/Rock Top 20, other hits include "And Get Away" (1967) and "You've Got The Power" (1968). Their string of hits continued on the R&B charts through the mid 1970s and in 1976, they remade their biggest hit as "Get On Up '76," which became their final charting song.

Formed in 1957 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and first known as Betty Moorer & The Esquires the original lineup also included brothers Gilbert (August 20, 1941 - August 28, 2008) and Alvis Moorer (January 18, 1940 - August 21, 2011). After the departure of sister Betty, the group shortened its name to The Esquires and Gilbert became lead singer. Other members of the classic late 1960s hitmaking lineup included Millard Edwards (bass), Shawn Taylor (bass), and tenor Sam Pace (September 22, 1944 - January 7, 2013). The Esquires continued through the mid 1990s with a number of personnel changes before finally disbanding.
