The Essex - Songs

ABOUT

The Essex was an R&B/pop vocal group that became famous during the early 1960s. They are best known for the catchy and upbeat "Easier Said Than Done" (1963), which topped both the R&B and Pop/Rock charts and became a million-seller. The Essex scored two more hits later that year with the Top 20 smash, "A Walkin' Miracle," and "She's Got Everything," all of which showcase the crystal clear vocals of lead singer Anita Humes.

Formed in 1962 by Walter Vickers (guitar) and drummer Rodney Taylor (d. 1966) who were members of the U.S. Marine Corps stationed in Okinawa, Japan, they enlisted fellow Marines Billy Hill and Rudolph Johnson as Essex group members after being transferred to Camp LeJeune in North Carolina. Lead singer Anita Humes (October 10, 1940 - May 30, 2010), another Marine, came on board soon after and completed the original lineup. Johnson left in late 1963 due to military obligations, and by the late 1960s, The Essex had disbanded.
