The Fantastic Johnny C - Songs

ABOUT

The Fantastic Johnny C (b. 1943) is a veteran soul singer who became famous during the late 1960s. Best known for the gritty funk classic, "Boogaloo Down Broadway" (1967), a Top 5 R&B hit that also made the Pop/Rock Top 10, other hits include "Got What You Need" (1968), "Hitch It To The Horse" (1968), and "(She's) Some Kind Of Wonderful" (1968), previously recorded by Soul Brothers Six and later by Grand Funk.

Born Johnny Corley in Greenwood, South Carolina, he was discovered in his early twenties by producer/songwriter Jesse James while singing with a gospel vocal group at the church they both attended. James became Corley's manager and wrote "Boogaloo Down Broadway" for him. At the peak of his commercial fame, The Fantastic Johnny C, as he came to be known, performed actively in the Philadelphia area and beyond with such top acts as Sam Cooke and Joe Simon. He released one album, the critically acclaimed "Boogaloo Down Broadway," and recorded a number of singles before leaving the music business in the 1970s, with occasional performances in later years. Corley went on to open his own record store, J.C. Records in Norristown, Pennsylvania.
