Frank Ifield - Songs

ABOUT

Frank Ifield (November 30, 1937 - May 18, 2024) was a highly acclaimed and veteran Australian country music singer and guitarist with a distinctive falsetto who became famous during the early 1960s and often incorporated yodelling into his music. He is best known in the U.S. for his unique country-styled rendition of the Victor Schertzinger/Johnny Mercer-penned pop standard, "I Remember You" (1962), which topped the U.K. Singles and U.S. Adult Contemporary charts, made the U.S. Pop/Rock Top 5, and became a million-seller.

Born Francis Edward Ifield in Coventry, England, he grew up in rural Australia where he taught himself to play the guitar and yodel as a child and began performing hillbilly music in his teens. He launched his music career in the 1950s, releasing several singles that were successful in Australia and New Zealand. In 1959, he moved back to the U.K. where he scored four #1 hits on the U.K. charts with his covers of "I Remember You" (1962), "Lovesick Blues" (1962), "The Wayward Wind" (1963), and "I'm Confessin' (That I Love You)" (1963), the latter three of which also became minor hits in the U.S. Over his long career, he recorded 25 albums and received numerous accolades, including induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2009 for his contributions to the arts.
