Freddy Fender - Songs

ABOUT

Freddy Fender (June 04, 1937 - October 14, 2006) was a highly acclaimed and veteran Tejano singer-songwriter and guitarist with a unique sound blending country, rock, swamp pop, and Tex-Mex styles who became famous during the mid and late 1970s. He is best known for "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" (1975), which topped both the Country and Pop/Rock charts and went gold. Other crossover favorites include "Wasted Days And Wasted Nights" (1975), "Secret Love" (1975), "You'll Lose A Good Thing" (1976), "Vaya Con Dios" (1976), and "Living It Down" (1976), most of which topped the Country charts.

Born Baldemar Garza Huerta in San Benito, Texas, he made his debut radio performance at age 10 on KGBT in Harlingen, Texas and began in the late 1950s playing Spanish-language rock and roll to mostly Latino audiences throughout Texas. He legally changed his name to Freddy Fender in 1958, taking his surname from the guitar. At the height of his commercial fame, Fender scored 21 hits on the Country charts from 1975-1983. He later teamed up with fellow Tex-Mex musicians Doug Sahm, Flaco Jimenez, and Augie Meyers in 1989 to form the Grammy-winning Texas Tornados. In the late 1990s, he joined another Grammy-winning supergroup, Los Super Seven. In 2001, Fender made his final studio recording, "La Musica de Baldemar Huerta," a collection of Mexican boleros that earned him a third Grammy, this time in the category of Latin Pop Album.
