ABOUT
The Jelly Beans were an R&B girl group with one guy that became famous during the mid 1960s. Best known for the sweet and innocent "I Wanna Love Him So Bad" (1964), which made the Top 10 on both the R&B and Pop/Rock charts, other hits include the yearning "Baby Be Mine" (1964).
Formed in 1962 in Jersey City, New Jersey while all the members were still in high school, the lineup consisted of Alma Brewer, sisters Elyse and Maxine Herbert, Diane Taylor, and Charles Thomas. In 1963, The Jelly Beans signed with Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller's label, Red Bird Records, and worked with the famed husband-wife songwriting team, Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich, who penned both their hits. The group's commercial fame proved to be short-lived, however, and The Jelly Beans released one final single in 1965 on Eskee Records before disbanding the following year.
