The Guess Who - Songs

ABOUT

The Guess Who was a highly acclaimed Canadian rock band with a hard-driving sound often featuring memorable guitar riffs and biting song lyrics that became famous during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Best known for the sardonic "American Woman" (1970), which topped both the U.S. and Canadian charts and went gold, other big hits include "These Eyes" (1969), "Laughing" (1969), "No Time" (1969), "Share The Land" (1970), and "Clap For The Wolfman" (1974).

Formed in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1965 and first known as Chad Allan & The Expressions, the original lineup consisted of Bob Ashley (keyboards, backing vocals), Randy Bachman (lead guitar, backing vocals), Jim Kale (bass, vocals), Garry Peterson (drums), and lead singer/guitarist Chad Allan (March 29, 1943 - November 21, 2023). Ashley left the band in early 1966 - by then known as The Guess Who - and was replaced by Burton Cummings (vocals, guitar, keyboards, flute, harmonica). Allan departed soon after, leaving Cummings as the sole lead singer. After the release in early 1970 of their album, "American Woman," Randy Bachman, who later formed Bachman-Turner Overdrive, left and was replaced by Greg Leskiw and Kurt Winter (April 2, 1946 - December 14, 1997), who both sang and played guitar. The Guess Who had several more personnel changes thereafter through their split in 1975, with many reunions over the years through 2003. At the height of their commercial fame, the band had a long string of hits on both the U.S. and Canadian charts through 1975 and recorded eleven studio albums.

The Guess Who's numerous honors and accolades include being inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in 2001 and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1987.
